How much can I reduce the file size?

It depends on the image and format. JPEGs typically shrink 40–70%. PNGs with large flat-color areas can shrink up to 80% using palette optimization. Images already compressed won't shrink as much.

Will compression make my image look worse?

At the quality settings we use (JPEG 82%, PNG max compression), the difference is imperceptible on screen. You'd need to zoom in to 200%+ to notice any difference.
